Charles Schneider is relatively unknown for his work as a French glass artist. He was an important contributor to the 1925 Exposition des Arts Decoratifs Modernes and was awarded the French Legion of Honour in 1926. With his brother Ernest and sister Ernestine he managed one of the largest art glass factories in France during the exciting artistic period we call the Art Deco.
The works from the Charles Schneider glass factory used all of the glass making techniques that developed during the 1920's. The daring use of colour and design is a trademark of Charles Schneider's glass output. His glassmaking output evolved from the naturalistic forms of the Art Nouveau into the geometric patterns and hard edged forms of the Art Deco.
We hope that this website will further the understanding of this master glassmaker (and the Charles Schneider glass factory) and his place in history alongside his predecesors Tiffany and Galle and his peers the Daum brothers and others.
The objective of this web site is to provide a global forum for the sharing of knowledge and information regarding the wonderful works of the 20th century Charles Schneider glass factory and also to showcase those amazing Schneider glass items in the online gallery.
This site is expected to expand and enhance the knowledge and interest of current and future collectors of the beautiful works of art glass that came from this factory during its relatively short history at the end of the Art Nouveau period and through the exciting period we call the Art Deco. The highlight of the web site is the Charles Schneider Glass Gallery which covers the prestigous Schneider brand and the consumer market Charder - Le Verre Francais trademark.
